“Books, Briefly” is featuring a graphic novel today…
Title: Putin’s Russia: The Rise of a Dictator
Author: Darryl Cunningham
READ IF YOU LIKE: graphic novels, world politics and issues, biographies, informative reads
MOOD: serious and informational
Likes | Dislikes |
Makes Putin’s life and Russian/Eastern European political history manageable to consume (fast read!) | Lack of a key for the names of the people mentioned; it’s hard to keep track of all of the Eastern European names |
Simplistic graphic design (line art with primarily reds and blues) | Putin. |
FINAL THOUGHTS: While I can’t say that I will remember every detail of Russia’s or Putin’s history (I’m not exactly a history buff with photographic memory), I sure have a lot more understanding of who Putin is and what has led to current political affairs. I wish all biographies could be done in a graphic novel form because they are more engaging to a wider audience and help chunk information in a visual and more linear way.
